Frequently Asked Questions

  • What After Effects is used for?

Adobe After Effects is an industry standard visual effects, motion graphics and compositing program used in post-production for videos. It is used in everything from film and television to online media. You can use After Effects to add animated titles to your videos, remove green screens, track footage and apply visual effects, kinetic typography, character animations, basic 3D compositing and much more. After Effects is not an ideal video editing application. It works within the video editing workflow after your footage has been edited in an application such as Adobe Premiere Pro.

  • Will After Effects run on my computer?here?

Adobe After Effects will run on your computer if they meet the following minimum technical specifications. Both Windows and Mac computers need a multicore Intel processor with 64-bit support. Windows users need Windows 10 versions 1703 or later. Mac users need the macOS 10.12 operating system or newer. 16GB of RAM memory is the minimum requirement, although 32 GB or more is recommended. At least 6 GB of available hard-disk space for installation and 10 GB of additional free space for disk cache is required. Your monitor needs to be a 1440x900 resolution or higher. You will need an internet connection for installation, registration, validation of subscription and access to online services.

  • How to install plugins in After Effects?

Here is how to install an After Effects plugin. typically, you an install a plugin by copying the file to the Adobe After Effects plug-ins folder. After Effects plugins usually come as a ZIP file which should be extracted by double clicking the file. Then go to the After Effects plug-in folder (On Windows, the Adobe After Effects folder is usually located in C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe After Effects\Support Files\Plug-ins. On Mac, the plugin location is usually located in Applications/Adobe After Effects/Plug-ins.) Create a new folder for your plugin and paste the plug-in file into that folder. Open up After Effects (or close and restart if it is already open) and your plugin should be available in the Effects menu at the top of the screen.

  • How to use Adobe After Effects?

After Effects is a computer program that allows you to create graphics and apply digital visual effects to your videos. As part of the Adobe suite of applications, it works well with other applications such as Adobe Premiere Pro. The basic workflow for how to use After Effects is starting with a new composition. Within this composition you can add layers. Layers can be anything from a text layer, shape layer, video layer, adjustment layer, camera layer and many more. These layers can be manipulated and animated layer properties such as position, scale, opacity, etc. Effects can be applied to a layer. Each property or effect can be animated with keyframes. Compositions can then be rendered (or exported) for use in your video editing application such as Premiere Pro.

  • Can After Effects be used to edit video?

Adobe After Effects is not the ideal application for editing video. While you can do basic video editing techniques such as trimming video clips and sequencing clips in a particular order, this is better done in an application like Adobe Premiere Pro. After Effects is better for applying visual effects to a video clip, creating titles and graphics, doing basic animations, removing green screen and adding backgrounds, and those kinds of individualized video effects.
